Biodegradable Glitter: The Future of Sustainable Beauty

Biodegradable Glitter: The Future of Sustainable Beauty

Traditional plastic (PET) glitter is facing a global reckoning. As microplastic regulations tighten across the EU, UK, and increasingly the US, beauty brands urgently need sustainable alternatives.

The Problem With Traditional Glitter Conventional cosmetic glitter is made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film coated with aluminum. These particles are between 0.1mm and 5mm — well within the microplastic size range that regulators are targeting.

The EU banned loose microplastics in cosmetics in 2023 under REACH regulations, with a phase-out period for certain formats.

The Biodegradable Alternative: Eucalyptus Cellulose Plant-based biodegradable glitter is manufactured from eucalyptus cellulose — a rapidly renewable, sustainably harvested raw material. It looks visually identical to PET glitter but breaks down in freshwater within weeks.
